Rockwood Farm

312 Granby Road • Granville, MA 01034

Rockwood Farm sits on over 135 acres of land in rural Granville , Massachusetts . Richard Woodger is the sole proprietor of the farm and began his venture in 1968.  Richard & Mary married in 1966 and were blessed with 3 children, Dan, Deb & Doug.

Richard had always wanted to start a farm of his own ever since high school and after spending time working on his wife’s brothers’ dairy farm. Prior to starting his own farm business, Richard served in the Army and  worked at United Aircraft for four years. After his time with the Army and working, he attended the Stockbridge School of Agriculture in hopes of fulfilling his dream of running a dairy farm.

After graduating from Stockbridge in 1968, Richard began a small dairy farm on leased land. The Woodger family now own  land in Granville where the dairy facility is located.   They lease some 700 acres of crop land; 400 in  corn and 300 in hay  in the surrounding communities.  The farm milks around 300 cows 3x a day, shipping roughly 21,000 lbs of milk daily. Rockwood farm is also a member of the Agri-Mark Coop.

Richard Woodger fulfilled his dream of owning and operating a dairy farm, and his youngest son, Doug, is hoping to take the farm over and continue the family tradition. Doug manages the herd performing many duties.  He prepares the dairy ration formulas, takes care of breeding and calving along with the many other daily chores.  Doug lives in Granville with his wife and daughter.

Rockwood farm became interested in the AGreen Energy project and anaerobic digestion in order to have the farm benefit from the by-products produced, as well as have a way to support the local community with increased environmental and energy benefits.
