Barway Farm is owned and operated by fourth generation dairy farmer, Peter Melnik. Barway Farm is located in South Deerfield, Massachusetts in rural Franklin County. It is a diversified dairy farm which milks 250 dairy cows. In addition to milking cows, the farm also grows a variety of crops.
The Melnik family has been a long time member of their community, and when Peter Melnik learned of a way to turn cow manure into energy, he was intrigued. The Melniks view anaerobic digestion as a way to benefit both the family farm and the community. Not only does the technology make Barway Farm more environmentally sound and efficient, but it can bring extra funds to the farm and supply electricity to the farm and surrounding neighbors.
